Live-Action Movie Will Not Have Hollywood’s Remake

Akira, the live-action movie will not have Hollywood’s remake of the cult classic animated film. Which was suppose to be produce by Leonardo DiCaprio’s company, Appian Way and by Warner Bros. Pictures. A report confirmed by Bloody Disgusting’s two unknown separate sources along with Ruairi (pronounced RAW-REE) Robinson, which would happen to be his directorial debut, left the project. Appian Way and Warner Bros. planned for its live-action adaption from the manga graphic novel for two films.
Akira came to us in the 80’s. Production by several major entertainment companies for the animated movie. From director/co-writer Katsuhiro Otomo. Originally an 2,182 page manga. Trouble biker boy Tetsuo Shima find himself in the mist of military government experiments, freaky looking kids, and the secrets behind Akira past in future NeoTokyo in the year 2019.

Dragonball Evolution

  • Fox/Director James Wong’s adaption of Dragonball based on the King Piccolo saga anime series hit over 2000 screens and drew in over $10 million over the weekend from the Asian market. Before both the UK and US premiers. China and Japan gross over 3.3 million; in China opened #1, Japan as #2, but numbers yet to come in ranked #1 in Korea. Also ranking #1 in Hong Kong ($480,000), Malaysia ($730,000), Singapore ($380,000), and Thailand ($520,000). UK open on April 3 and in the US on April 8.

  • Shonen Jump magazine will feature Hollywood’s Dragonball Evolution fold-out in its next month issue. Hitting the stands on March 31.

Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie

Another fan favorite to turn live-action movie. Keanu Reeves (The Watcher, Scanner Darkly) cast as Spike Spiegel. That Reeves reported, based on the “Red Eye” episode, but not an original story. Peter Craig on screenplay writing. Also on board the original script supervisor, original director of the series, and others. 20th Century Fox will work with Sunrise, Inc, and 3 Arts Entertainment is collaborating in Hollywood’s adaption on the anime series turn live-action movie. Expected to be released in 2011 and in its pre-production stage. Spike Spiegel is a bounty hunter with a past in the popular sci-fi anime series.

Blood: The Last Vampire Live Action Movie

Blood: The Last Vampire will be released in the U.S., British and French theaters. Universal acquired distribution rights for the U.S. and Canada. A June ‘09 date set to for British and France theaters. A possible June release date by Universal for U.S. theater. Leading as Saya is South Korean actress Jun Ji Hyun in the live action adaption of Blood: The Last Vampire. Saya is a government agent that hunts down vampire at a U.S. airbase, who herself is a vampire. Jun has practice English and train in martial art and close combat with the best of Hollywood’s action trainers. Along with a new screen name for U.S. audiences as Gianna Jun, but keep her original name for her Korean audiences which she is very popular in South Korea.

Robotec into Live Action Movie

Here is another upcoming anime live action movie by Warner Bros. Which they had the rights since 2007. Originally rewritten and drafted by Lawrence Kasdan for Warner. Smallville writers Alfred Gough and Mills Miller wrote the screenplay for the live action movie. Attached to the movie as producer is Toby Magurie (Spider-Man) and possible lead role. Not yet confirmed. Also producing is Akiva Goldsman, Chuck Roven, and Drew Crevello. The executives producers and right holder of Harmony Gold, Frank Agrama, along with Jason Netter.

Base on Robotec anime series for the U.S. audience was edited for content and re-dialoged from three unrelated mecha series for T.V. syndication in the ‘80s. This gave 85 episodes at a time for 5 day out of the week. Harmony Gold USA who produced the tweaked series made discussion. In U.S. version involved three generations and three war over a energy source, Protoculture, against alien force. But luckily for the humans, extraterrestrial technology was found and use in the creation of mecha, man-piloted robot, to combat the terrorist.
